You hear that? That’s the sound of the Downtown Cedar Rapids Trolley coming your way! Presented by Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust and the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, the trolley offers free and easy access to dining, shopping, and entertainment venues throughout the frigid winter months.❄️The initiative aims to enhance connectivity for residents and visitors exploring the downtown district.

The two trolleys will operate from 5 to 11pm on Friday and Saturdays, arriving in 15 minute intervals. Beginning December 6, the pilot program will last through January 31. For more information, please visit: downtowncr.org/downtown-trolley/

❄️Getting the Downtown District into the holiday spirit!❄️ Our maintenance team has been hard at work hanging thousands of lights and other decorations to help the district shine. ✨ If you see them on the streets, let them know you appreciate their work!

Targeting completion in 2030, the 8th Ave Bridge p

Targeting completion in 2030, the 8th Ave Bridge project has received a substantial boost in funding. Dubbed the "𝘼𝙧𝙘 𝙤𝙛 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚", this stunning structure will replace the existing bridge connecting Downtown to the western districts of Cedar Rapids. Earlier this year, a $56.4 million federal grant was awarded for its construction. This grant has since increased a further $6 million, or $62.4 million altogether.

The newly improved funding will accelerate the design process ahead of construction starting in 2027. The new bridge will be a full 15 feet higher above the Cedar River, allowing it to remain open should the city experience flood conditions. In short, it will add an attractive piece of architecture to the Downtown area while working to ensure the safety of its occupants.

He's here! Caleb has officially begun his role as the Downtown Executive Director. Welcome!

The Downtown SSMID is delighted to announce that Caleb Knutson has been hired as the Downtown Executive Director! He will be responsible for implementing the Downtown Vision Plan, which includes the attraction, retention and expansion of downtown businesses, and effective communication with downtown stakeholders.

A native of Des Moines, Knutson is a graduate of Iowa State University with a master's degree in Community and Regional Planning. With a diverse professional background that includes leadership positions in higher education, and city and governor appointed roles, Caleb has over a decade of experience leading diverse teams and successfully executing projects of varying scales. Knutson brings a nuanced understanding of what is optimal for business, stakeholders, and customers.

We are thrilled to have him on our team! Ahead of his first day on October 14, please wish him a warm welcome 😊
