Customer Parking Added to Support Downtown Retail

July 27, 2010
In continued pursuit of creating retail friendly parking options downtown, Cedar Rapids Parking has announced the installation of twelve parking meters that will go within the 300 block of 1st Street SE, with additional meters to be installed along the 600 block of 1st Avenue SE.
On-street permit parkers currently occupying the soon to be metered stalls will continue to have access to designated monthly permit spaces along the 2nd and 3rd Avenue bridges as well as along 1st Street. Enforcement of the new meters will begin on August 1.
Transitioning some on-street monthly permit spaces to customer spaces was a primary action item of the Parking Strategic Action Plan finalized by the Downtown District in April 2010.
“We think it’s important for customers and for people shopping downtown to have easily visible and obtainable parking spots, just as they would at any other retail location they might visit.” said Theresa Blair, spokesperson for Smulekoff’s Home Store.
Cedar Rapids Parking reminds monthly parkers and customers to observe all signage to avoid unnecessary citation. Questions on any parking related issues may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Parking Office by calling 319-365-7275 or by emailing crparking@republicparking.com.
