City Dedicates Parking Lots for Downtown Events
Beginning tonight at 5:00 p.m., the City of Cedar Rapids will be controlling access to two downtown parking lots to accommodate evening and weekend special event parking. Access to Lots 24 and 26, between 1st and 2nd Avenue and between the railroad tracks and the Iowa Theater Building, will be reserved for parking during evening and weekend events at the US Cellular Center, Theatre Cedar Rapids and other downtown venues.
During these events, access to Lots 24 and 26 will be limited to 1st Avenue only and the City will charge $5.00 per vehicle to park in these lots. Barricades will be posted at the 2nd Avenue entrance and adjacent alleyways before and during the events. The barricades will be removed at the end of the events so that parkers can exit any of the access points.
These parking lots will be used for evening and weekend event parking from Thursday, February 25, through Sunday, March 14, to accommodate the Jeff Dunham’s Identity Crisis Show, the Iowa High School State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament, the 2010 Boys’ High School Substate Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Division II 2010 Wrestling Championships, the Grand Reopening of the Iowa Theater Building and Theatre Cedar Rapids’ “The Producers” shows.
