SNOW EMERGENCY Now-Tuesday, Feb. 9, 11 p.m.
The City of Cedar Rapids is under a winter storm watch by the National Weather Service with a forecast of up to 8 inches of snow. A snow emergency is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010 to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Snow routes are in effect for this time period.
According to Public Works Maintenance Manager, Craig Hanson, the City has requested drivers to refrain from parking on the street. If this is not possible, please park on the even side of the street to provide increased effectiveness and efficiency in snow removal. Crews will not plow a road if it is not safe because of parked cars.
Please note the following parkades are available for use, offering a safer alternative than parking on the street during snow removal and winter warnings:
Five Seasons Parkade
Fourth Avenue Ramp
Ground Transportation Center Parkade
Specific pricing for each parkade can be found at
www.cedar-rapids.org/parking.
The snow plows are over 50,000 pounds and spread salt and sand. Maintain a safe distance back from snow plows by at least 50 feet. As road speeds increase, the distance should also increase. Drivers need to give room to the plows for safe operations. On behalf of the Downtown District, we thank you for your cooperation. Please contact us with any questions at (319)398-0449.
