City & Downtown District Seeking Public Input to Improve Parking
“Parking in Action” Roundtable Discussion on Feb. 12
The City of Cedar Rapids and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District invite all residents to participate in a
“Parking in Action” roundtable discussion on Friday, February 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel ballroom, 350 First Avenue NE.
This 90-minute public input session includes a presentation about proposed improvements to the current downtown parking system, roundtable discussions to gather input and feedback and a question-and-answer period. Participants will also be able to preview new parking technology and user-friendly signage.
All of the information gathered during this session will be used to create a comprehensive parking strategic plan, as outlined in both the JLG Downtown Vision Plan (2007) and Neighborhood Reinvestment Action Plans (2009).
“This parking plan will serve as a road map to a parking system that drives economic development in downtown Cedar Rapids,” said City Council Member Kris Gulick. “And this is another accomplishment of the Neighborhood Planning Process. Residents made it clear that our parking system needs to be improved and we’re doing just that.”
All attendees who park in the Five Season Parking Ramp will receive a validation sticker for free parking during the event. The result of this collaborative project will be specific action steps that could be implemented by the City of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Parking and the Downtown District as early as summer 2010.
