Downtown Letter on Library Site
As stated in the Gazette, the Library board will hold a meeting announcing their library site recommendations to the Cedar Rapids City Council at 4 p.m. at the Westdale Mall branch of the Cedar Rapids Library. Downtown stakeholders provided a letter to the Library Board of Directors, stating recommendations for the new library site should be based on the JLG Vision Plan and the Neighborhood Planning Process, created and supported widely by the community and downtown leaders.

Downtown stakeholders have provided a lot of input into the library site discussion, dating back to post-flood Sasaki/City neighborhood plans and then the series of public forums/open houses. You’ve heard numerous times from the two of us, members of the Downtown District and SSMID boards, and many other downtown leaders. Without reiterating several well-rehashed points at length, it’s fair to summarize downtown advocacy for the TrueNorth, Gazette and Banjo block sites for a series of compelling economic, social and programmatic reasons.
As you near a decision on a site recommendation to City Council, we wanted to focus instead on a few points that may not have gotten as much attention, but that the Downtown District Board believes are important to be considered...
